ADD750 Coil On Plug COP Ignition System Quick Tester User Manual

Original ADDTOOL ADD750 COP Ignition Quickly Tester Description:

The ADD750 Coil On Plug (COP) Quick Ignition tester is a battery-operated, hand-held quick tester designed to easily and quickly determine if a COP is producing a proper spark for the spark plug.

ADD750 COP Ignition Coil Tester works by receiving a signal from the secondary ignition coil and determines if the COP is producing the correct amount of voltage and arc duration. If the voltage is correct, the tester beeps and the red LED light flashes; if the arc duration is correct the green LED will also flash.

    Assembling:

    1.  Attach the extension probe onto the tester.
    2.  Press fit the probe tip onto the extension probe.

    FEATURES:

    Quickly diagnoses faulty ignition coils
    Adjustable sensitivity
    Auto power off

    SPECIFICATIONS:

Probe length including end sensor 200mm
    Powered by CR2032 battery supplied
    Handset 130L  x 55H x 22W mm

    RED LIGHT - Spark

Consistent, steady flashing and beeping indicates the COP is producing the correct voltage.

    GREEN LIGHT - Arc

Consistent and steady flashing indicates the arc duration is correct.

    NO LIGHT OR INCONSISTENT RESPONSE

Indicates the COP is NOT producing the correct voltage. This may be caused by the following:

    1. Fouled spark plug, or incorrect gap
    2. Damaged or corroded wires or connectors
    3. Faulty coil or PCM

How to Operate ADD750 Coil On Plug COP Ignition System Quick Tester:

1.Turn on the tester by firmly tapping the handle of the tester on a hard surface. To indicate the tester is on, the red and green LEDs rapidly flash alternately, and the tester emits an ascending beeping sound for a short period. Afterwards, until the tester turns off, the green LED continues to slowly flash to indicate the tester is on.

Note: Firmly lapping the handle while the testers turned on initiates a self-test, in which the both LEDs flash simultaneously and the tester beeps for a short period.

    2. With the engine running, firmly place the tester's signal receiver pad against the COP's body. Make sure the marked side of the pad is towards the COE,you can adjust sensitivity switch untill the red and green LED flash on simultaneously

(1).Because the tester relies on a signal emitted from the COP body, it may be necessary to move the signal receiver pad around until the pad is in a position to pick up the strongest signal.

(2).Because the strength of ignition signal that every car  produce are different so you need to adjust sensitivity switch when you retest a car untill the red and green LED flash on simultaneously.

(3).It is possible that a misfire may not

Develop while the engine is operating at

low-speed, so it may be necessary to test

the COP with the engine heated, under

load, or brake torque (increased RPMs)

On DIS vehicles, the wasted spark may cause a doubling of the spark detection. To avoid this and only detect the true spark, slightly move the probe tip away from the ignition cable.

If the tester resets or changes mode during testing, the spark plug may not be firing and the high voltage is approaching the coil's maximum output voltage.

    Quick Check Mode:
To enter the Quick Check Mode, simply turn the tester on. The tester automatically enters this mode when it is powered on.

During this mode, the red and green LEDs alternately flash once every second until a spark is detected.

Once a spark is detected, the Red LED light flashes and the red or the green LED lights to show the polarity.

    Notes:
1.If the tester does not detect a spark after 30 seconds, it automatically turns off.
2.The Quick Check Mode may not detect spark voltage less than 5 kV. Use the Measurement Mode to verify.

    Applications

    Test Results

    Red LED Light
Consistent, steady flashing and beeping indicates the COP is producing the correct amount of voltage. No response or an inconsistent response indicates the COP is NOT producing the correct amount of voltage. This may be caused by one of the following:

1.Fouled spark plug, or incorrect gap
    2.Damaged/corroded wires or connectors
    3.Faulty coil or PCM

    Green LED light
Consistent and steady flashing indicates the duration of the arc is correct.
No response or an inconsistent response indicates the duration of the arc is NOT correct. This may be caused by one of the following:
    1.Shorted windings inside the coil
    2. Resistance or bad connections in the
    3. primary / secondary connections
    4. Faulty coil

Please refer to the vehicle's shop manual for instructions on troubleshooting and repairing/replacing defective COPs.

    Turning the Tester Off
The tester automatically turns off after approximately 2 minutes of non-use. Before shutting off, both LEDs flash and the tester emits a descending beeping sound for a short period.

    Maintenance
    Replacing the Battery

The Coil On Plug (COP) Quick Ignition Quick tester uses a 3-volt CR2032 lithium battery.
    1.  Remove the two screws from the handle.
    2.  Carefully separate the handle and remove the old battery.
    3.  Place the new battery in the handle, positive (+) side facing up.
    4.  Reassemble and tighten the screws.

    The Signal Receiver Pad
It is recommended to visually inspect the signal receiver pad for any cracks or tears before every use. If damaged, replace the pad.

    The Red and Green LEDs
The LEDs on the tester are not replaceable.
